John Dickinson
Biography
About
John Dickinson has over ten years teaching experience in higher education with a commitment to cross-disciplinary exchange. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University, double majoring in Art and Philosophy. After completing his MFA in Studio Art at SMU’s Meadows School for the Arts, he spent two years teaching drawing classes at Colorado State. In 2013, he accepted an Assistant Professor of Art position at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where he taught for eight years and achieved the rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
Professor Dickinson's research interests currently include an exploration of the literal and representational capacities of sculptural space, mold making as a means of complicating an object’s materiality, and the notion of mold as metaphor for dialectical thinking and negation. He sustains a focus on developing his creative scholarship through an active exhibition record at regional and national institutions including Grounds for Sculpture in New Jersey, The Salt Lake Art Center, University of Texas-Dallas, The Sculpture Center, Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center, Skylab Gallery, and the Contemporary Dayton.
