The Department of Art at New Mexico State University is seeking a full-time College Assistant Professor in Studio Foundations.

The Department of Art at New Mexico State University is seeking a full-time College Assistant Professor in Studio Foundations.


The Department of Art is housed in the new state-of-the-art Devasthali Hall and offers BA degrees in Studio Art and Art History, BFA degrees in studio art and museum conservation, an MA degree in Art History and an MFA in Studio Art. NMSU also offers a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies. Facilities: include traditional drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, sculpture, metals, ceramics and include digital tools in design and fabrication, including, C&C machine, laser cutters, water jet cutter, digital embroidery, 3-D printers, 3D ceramic printer, risograph, decal printers, along with two Mac labs.

 

Classification Standard Duties

Responsibilities include teaching an annual 4/4 course load; advising undergraduate students; service to the department, college, university and profession, and outreach.

 

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency


An M.F.A. in Studio Art with emphasis in transmedia studio.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required qualifications include a minimum of two years university-level teaching experience beyond graduate school; an expertise in a range of digital and traditional, contemporary methods and materials, fabrication techniques and critical issues related to art across a variety of media; an ability to work with undergraduate students in a cross-media foundations program; a capacity for overseeing an area budget; and a willingness to work with a diverse faculty and student population.

Preferred technical ability in digital drawing/illustration as well as digital design and fabrication, and familiarity with contemporary art history and theory.
