We are excited to welcome as one of our October visiting Artist Wang Chen on Tuesday, October 12th, 6:00pm MST in the HSS building room 101A and simultaneously through Zoom.
WANG Chen was born in China and is a multimedia artist currently living and working in NYC. Chen makes costumes and props for her video and builds unimaginable spaces using virtual reality. She received a BFA in painting from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014 and an MFA in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2018.
WANG Chen’s work incorporates digital video, performance, 3D game design, costume design and fabrication, sculpture, and drawing. By layering these different mediums into an immersive installation, the artist creates an overwhelming and consuming fantasy experience. The combination of dense and highly saturated mise-en-scène with these gestures and displays of behavior resolves in an allegory for power dynamics within sexual identity and social norms.
All events are free and open to the NMSU community and the public. Sponsored by the NMSU Department of Art, University Art Museum and paid for by the Lilian Steinman Visiting Artist Fund.
