Art Students design for virtual URCAS!

This year’s Undergraduate Research Creative Arts Symposium (URCAS) went virtual!

Read about the Student Art Team’s contribution to this event hosted by the Honors college:

Once more, the Advanced Graphic Design class has been given the opportunity to construct the brand for URCAS 2020. The class was divided into two teams, each given the task to create a conquering logo, having each student present their original concepts. This year’s winning URCAS logo design belongs to Lena Vasquez. As explained by her, this logo represents the unity among all disciplines in the symposium. It embodies the importance and seriousness along with a touch color, thus denoting the playfulness that is often needed throughout the categories. The primary colors represent the principals of the establishment of this symposium.

She then led her team, consisted of Fabian Armendariz, Emilio Grijalva and Blanca Martinez, to create a program along with poster designs for the symposium. The selected poster design was created by Blanca Martinez, a junior pursuing a bachelor’s in fine arts with a focus in Graphic Design. The T-shirt Design was created by Lena Vasquez, the appointed art director and team leader. She is currently undergoing her senior year and will graduate in May with her bachelor’s in Studio Art with a focus in Photography and a double minor in Museum Conservation and French. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lena Vasquez and Blanca Martinez transitioned the project for URCAS 2020 to an online platform. The collaboration of both students consisted of the website icons for each college represented as well as an interactive poster for the symposium.
