Welcome to the new Department of Art, Devasthali Hall. On February 28th and 29th, we invite you to take part in our events to celebrate our new Silver Leeds building. We will kick off the official opening ceremonies outside of the NMSU Art Museum (weather permitting) at 6:30. From 6:30 to 8:30, we invite you to attend the opening of the University Art Museum’s exhibit, LABOR: Motherhood & Art in 2020 curated by Director Marisa Sage and co-curated by artist Laurel Nakadate.

You’ll find the list of artists in the exhibit and don’t miss Jessica Jackson Hutchins performance with the NMSU dance students at 7:15.

This exhibition features the work of artists Tracey Baran, María Berrío, Patty Chang, Lenka Clayton, Amy Cutler, Joey Fauerso, Tierney Gearon, Kate Gilmore, Jessica Jackson Hutchins, Las Hermanas Iglesias, Mary Kelly, Justine Kurland, Marilyn Minter, Laurel Nakadate, Hương Ngô & Hồng- Ân Trương, Yoko Ono, Catherine Opie, Laurie Simmons, Wendy Red Star, and Mickalene Thomas.

Saturday, Devasthali Hall and the UAM will be open to the public from 11 am to 4 pm. See the schedule below for a list of tours, workshops and of course, we invite you to see the first exhibit to open in the University Art Museum, Labor: Motherhood & Art in 2020.

11 – 1 PM : WORKSHOPS

Graphic Design: Make a GIF with paper, pencil and photoshop Drawing: Collaborative Still Life Project – add your lines! Ceramics: Hands-on with clay. Make a mug or bowl Printmaking: pull a relief print of Devasthali Hall using laser photography Museum Conservation: A petition or prayer to the Virgin Mary to grant a favor

2 – 4 PM: WORKSHOPS

Photo Portraits: Take your portrait in our new lighting studio Drawing: Collaborative Still Life Project – add your lines! Metals Studio: Letter stamping to make a keychain or pendant. Museum Conservation Area: A petition or prayer to the Virgin Mary to grant a favor. Digital Lab: Use laser cutting and engraving to create an illusionary, small wooden NM State Art piece in the style of Sol LeWitt’s public sculpture located here on campus.
