Fulbright Professor Rachel Stevens Lecture

Returning from a Fulbright in Ukraine, Professor Rachel Stevens will share her research, journey, and the three projects that explored different elements of Lviv, Ukrain’s Jewish heritage. From January-June of 2018, Rachel Stevens lived in Lviv, Ukraine and focused her research and creation on Lviv’s former Jewish community, which once exceeded 160,000 people, but was destroyed during the Nazi occupation during WW2. Stevens’ three projects reveals diverse aspects of Lviv’s former Jewish community. At the heart of Stevens’ three projects are 75 clear class synagogue keys, cast from an iron original. The installation commemorates the 75th anniversary of the liquidation of the Janowska Death Camp and Lwow Ghetto, where many of Stevens relatives perished. Please join us for this riveting lecture.

The University Art Gallery will be sponsoring Professor Stevens’s lecture on 9.20.18 at 5:30 pm. Get here early for a good seat.
