About

Professor Marinas has been the Director of the Museum Conservation Program at New Mexico State University since 2002. During 2000-2001, she served as the Acting Director of NMSU’s Art Gallery. From 1998 to 2008, she was the gallery’s conservator; and between 1998 and 2000, she was the conservator for the exhibition “El Favor de los Santos:The Retablo Collection of New Mexico State University.

EDUCATION

2003-2008 – Post-graduate studies at Campbell Center in Care of Photographic Collections, Care of Works on Paper, Mastering In-painting and Collections Management in Storage

1998 – MA in Anthropology, New Mexico State University (NMSU). Published Master’s Thesis entitled: Paquimé: Architecture, Labor, and Sociopolitical Complexity. – Graduate Minor in Art History (18 credits)

1994 – Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Institute of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, Madrid; Título de Licenciatura in Art Conservation and Restoration (equivalent to MA). Major: Archæology; Thesis: History and Conservation of Adobe (in Spanish).

1991 – Academia Peña Fine Arts, Madrid; two-year certificate in drawing and painting.

1985 – School for Computer Sciences, Madrid; two-year diploma in computer sciences.

1979 – Universidad Complutense de Madrid; one year in major Art History.

EMPLOYMENT

1994 to present – Art Conservator in Private Practice

2002 to present – Art Conservator/Professor. Director of the Museum Conservation Program at NMSU. Adjunct professor in the Anthropology Department at NMSU. Creation of the Museum Conservation Undergraduate Program at NMSU (Second in the USA). Teaching 4 Conservation classes, Internships and Special Topics classes at NMSU as part of the Museum Conservation Program. Creation of Museum Studies Graduate Certificate at NMSU in conjunction with the Art, History and Anthropology departments.

2001-2002 – Acting Director of the University Art Gallery at NMSU. Sending the traveling exhibition “El Favor de los Santos” to 2 venues in USA, 3 venues in Mexico and 2 venues in Spain. JUDY CHICAGO Show. USA Cancer Association Show. Creation of the two databases for both the Permanent Collection and the Retablo Collection at NMSU Art Gallery (almost 4,000 items) Administration of New Mexico Legislative House Bill II Grant, under Rep. J. Paul Taylor (Conservation, exhibition and cataloguing of the NMSU retablo collection $300,000).

1998-2001 – Conservator of the 19th Century Mexican Retablo Collection of New Mexico State University (Conservation Project $200,000), including Conservation Project for the International Exhibition of the 19th Mexican retablos “El Favor de los Santos: The Retablo Collection of New Mexico State University”, University Art Gallery, NMSU; ($180 Stockman Family Foundation Grant). Additional duties as Collection Conservator/Manager: conservation of the 19th Mexican retablos from NMSU Collection, NMSU Permanent Collection, and 20th century paintings for the 98 Gala Art Auction, NMSU Art Gallery.
