Jessica Jackson Hutchins’ visit to NMSU, is part of the Fall 2019 Visiting Artist and Scholars Lecture Series. All the events are free and open to the NMSU community and public, are sponsored by the NMSU Department of Art, and are paid for by the Lilian Steinman Visiting Artist Fund.
In her practice, Hutchins integrates and transforms the chaos and excitement of domestic life, an intuitive studio practice, motherhood, and the intimacy of both life and art into abstracted, raw, large-scale ceramic and sculptural works. Her work has been incorporated into public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Brooklyn Museum, NY; and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. She has exhibited internationally including the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, OH (2016); the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (2014); the Hepworth Wakefield Museum (2013); the Broad Art Museum in East Lansing, MI (2013); the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, MA (2011); the 55th Venice Biennale, The Encyclopedic Palace (2013) and The Whitney Biennial (2010).
