Pop Up Art Show Creates a Bridge in “Challenging the Traditional View”

Karen Conley, recent alumna from NMSU’s BFA program, took on the charge along with the help of artist friends, Roy van Der Aa, Tiffany Figuero and a few others to organize a recent pop up exhibit, “Challenging the Traditional Viewpoint”. Two art supporters and members of the Las Cruces Community Partners, Bob Pofahl and Steve Newby generously donated space in the Bank of the West building located in downtown Las Cruces. The exhibition included 150 artworks by 50 artists of which 21 were NMSU students.

This event is a great example of bridging the link between NMSU and the community through art. The exhibit brought together young artists getting started in their professions, emerging artists and experienced, professional artists who are well-known for their art style in this area.

We successfully executed a fantastic Pop-up show featuring 50 artists and 150 pieces of art to include video and installations. Almost 400 people came through the door between Aug 20th and 24th. We had repeat visitors who came and were happy to stay in the space and visit with other people and they took their time looking at the artwork. We can make this happen again.”
