I consider teaching to be an interactive process, involving both teacher and student in a dialogue. As a result, I work closely with students whether they are in beginning or graduate level classes. In drawing and painting classes students have the opportunity to develop their creative and intellectual skills along with their technical abilities. I try to integrate all three of these aspects of learning into every level of the drawing and painting classes I teach. I stress the importance of developing an individual approach to studio work, the ability to critically analyze visual images, and a strong foundation of technical skills. I rely upon observation and an intuitive approach to learning as a way of facilitating the learning process. For a lengthier discussion of my teaching philosophy, take a look at my book, Drawing Basics.
