For the last six years I have been primarily teaching foundation courses in drawing, painting and two-dimensional design. The curriculum for these courses emphasizes the importance of working from observation as a vehicle for learning composition and technique. I believe that working from direct observation allows the student to develop their skills through an active participation in the act seeing. It also promotes discovery in their creative process and allows a heightened awareness of what is being observed.
