About

Jessika Edgar is a ceramic artist. While her work is often mixed media, the most prominent material is always clay. Jessika earned a BA and MA in Art from California State University Northridge in Northridge, CA, in 2008 and 2009, respectively. In 2011, she received her MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Jessika has exhibited nationally and internationally and has been a visiting Artist-in-Residence at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, Assistant and Visiting Artist at Guldagergaard: International Ceramic Research Center in Skaelskor, Denmark, and most recently the Post-MFA Fellow at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.

Present Asistant Professor of Art, Department Head of Ceramics, New Mexico State University,

August 2012- Visiting Lecturer in Ceramics, Department of Art, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH
May 2013 Taught Intermediate High Fire Ceramics, Beginning High Fire Ceramics, and Honors Beginning Ceramics.

Fall 2011 Adjunct Professor in Ceramics, Department of Art, Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI
Taught an intermediate ceramics class, as well as an upper level special topics class for ceramics
majors.

Summer 2010 Ceramics Teacher, Belvoir Terrace, Lenox, MA
Duties include creating/implementing curriculum, maintaining/preparing studio, and firing projects
for around 40 children ages 8-16.

Duties include preparing/implementing weekly curriculum for a class of 6-12 students.

Residencies and Fellowships

Fall 2012 Post MFA Fellow, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH
The Post MFA Fellows receive a studio and stipend, and are to work closely with the Department
of Art faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students. The fellowship concludes with an exhibition hosted by the Department of Art and a public speaking presentation.

January- Ceramics Assistantship, Guldagergaard: International Ceramic Research Center, Denmark
April 2012 Worked as a studio assistant to resident artists and staff, in exchange for studio space and lodging. Worked an average of 20 hrs/week loading kilns, overseeing studio maintenance, and assisting other artists.

Fall 2011 Ceramics Artists in Residence, Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI
Duties include creating/implementing curriculum for two undergraduate level classes, maintaining a studio, giving a public lecture, and having a solo show.
