The Annual BFA Exhibition at the Las Cruces Museum of Art

The Department of Art has received a $1,000 grant from the Devasthali Family Foundation to assist with an fundraiser in the fall of 2011.  The Devasthali Family Foundation helps art organizations showcase the work of local artists in a way that increases the impact of art in southern New Mexico.

In June, the New Mexico Arts/Art in Public Places is sponsoring an installation by Julia Barello at its New Mexico Art Centennial Project Space in Santa Fe.

Also in June, Rachel Stevens' work is included in a group exhibition at the Sidhartha Art Gallery in Kathmandu, Nepal.  The show is a collection of work by US & Nepali Fulbright recipients celebrating the 50th anniversary of Fulbright Commission/USEF Nepal.

Professor Stevens has an upcoming exhibition at the Zane Bennett Gallery in Santa Fe during October and November 2011.

In September, David Taylor will participate in a group exhibition with former and current students Chris Mortenson (BFA, 2010), Jessica Owen (BFA, 2009) and Kally Malcom (current MFA student) in Pingyao, China.  Titled Under the Influence, the exhibition includes work by leading U.S. photographic educators and their students for the 11th annual Pingyao International Photography Festival.  This festival is held every year in Pingyao, a 2,700-year-old walled village that is a UNESCO world heritage site. The festival generally attracts approximately 100,000 visitors from all over the world. Exhibitions are held in eight venues including two temples, a knitting factory, an old warehouse, and a diesel factory.

Professor Taylor will present a lecture Working the Line - Physical, Social and Political topography of the U.S./Mexico Border at the 11th BRIT Conference on Mobile Borders to be held this September between Geneva (Switzerland) and Grenoble (France).
